What did you do this past week?

  • This past week I worked completing the Figma mock-ups for the front end design. By starting off there I was able to figure out how much work was really left and what the best ways to divide those tasks were. Apart from Software Engineering, I had a lot of other coding assignments for my informatics classes that I was taking care of. They were interesting but definitely understanding the Python essentials I am learning in this class really helped me to do better on those assignments/classes.

What’s in your way?

  • For this class, just really finishing up implementing the designs into the website screens. After doing this I want to create a better logo on Procreate and learn how to use SVG’s on a Web Application for animation. That is my reach goal for this project that I am hoping I do get the chance to implement. After this I have a midterm for Intro to Human Centered Data Science class on Thursday that I have to catch up on a few lectures for. I am hoping to get done with all my assignments tonight and tomorrow and dedicate the week to projects/midterms.

What will you do next week?

  • Next week for this class, I just plan on working through Phase 3, studying for my exam and then spending the weekend back at home in Houston, Texas. That way I can relax with my family. If I do get to finish all of this I hope to have more relaxed second half of the week.

If you read it, what did you think of the Why getter and setter methods are evil?

  • I did read it! It honestly really me made me rethink how I was writing code for my classes/projects. I personally thought that writing getter and setter methods would make the code a lot more cleaner and visually appealing/easier to understand. But I really underestimated the amount of implications it actually has on the security and abstraction aspects of the code.

What was your experience of select, project, cross join and theta join? (this question will vary, week to week)

  • These were a little bit harder to understand in class when they were being taught, but I was able to pick it up during the class exercises. I think that the great thing about this class is that it can be super collaborative if you want it to be. This way when we do the exercises we are able to learn it together and understand as we go through it. Which I personally think is great!

What made you happy this week?

  • I went to College Station on Friday for my friends’ Ring Dunks and Ring Day Ceremony. It was really fun to see staple Aggie traditions and meet up with friends I haven’t seen in a while. I think seeing them made me feel a lot better about the current pandemic chapter of our lives :)

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

  • Lo-Fi beats and mood lighting. I know that everyone uses them but when you are working or really trying to focus, really making sure your surroundings are neat is really important. This way your attention span can be truly undivided.
