What did you do this past week?

This past week, I actually worked on different assignments for multiple different classes. For example, in SWE I started on our website project and worked on implementing the Splash Screen and then About Screen. Then I caught up on old assignments and projects that I needed extensions on. This last week also had WiCS Hacks virtually that I helped organize as well as getting various workshops that were happening all week long as well as yesterday.

What’s in your way?

Now I have to finish projects for my informatics class that involve the history and evolution of data collection. After that I have to finish doing a lab assignment for my statistics class before I get back to working on CS Electives. This is a week filled with school work, projects and midterms for me. Once this week is over, my life will be much much less stressful.

What will you do next week?

This next week I am going to work on all my school work and figure out my study plans for Spring Break. After finishing all of my work I plan on going home over the weekend so I can get my second round of the vaccine. Along with that, I plan to meet my SWE group so we can a work plan/schedule.

If you read it, what did you think of the Open-Closed Principle?

I personally really enjoyed the Open-Closed Principle. We also read this paper last semester in OOP and I enjoyed it then too. I think that it goes over really important aspect of coding that allow you to fully envision your code as you write it. It allowed me to further analyze and understand the concepts of OOP like encapsulation and abstraction.

What was your experience of iterators and reduce2? (this question will vary, week to week)

The in-class exercises really allow me to learn what is gone over in class. Professor Downing teaches the exercises in detail but actually after implementing it yourself you can learn so much more. I think that working with a group and asking them questions helped my understanding.

What made you happy this week?

WiCS Hacks made me really happy because I got to work with a lot of new people and meet many others in the department that I had never gotten a chance to talk to before hand. This was a good experience for me, because it really taught me how to communicate online efficiently.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I read an article talking about how action actually creates inspiration and then eventually motivation. Its easy to get bogged down by class work and material and its usually very frustrating and easy to say that you aren’t motivated. But this week, I learned that by doing little by little eventually you can and will want to do more.
